North Marble Falls Loop

Activities Available:

This is a pretty little drive through some picturesque countryside that is an easy one you probably could do with one eye tied behind your back. But you would not want to do that because you need your depth perception to appreciate all the sites fully. This is a scenic drive that will take you to Balcones Canyonland and other points of interest. You begin in Marble Falls, which was named after a water fall on the Colorado River that now is under water because of the construction of Lake Marble Falls. In case you have forgotten your Texas history, this is the area where the granite was mined to construct the capitol building in Austin. Start in Marble Falls by heading east on 1431, which will take you to Smithwick. ·Stay on 1431 a little further after leaving Smithwick and then take a left onto 1174 at the intersection.·Turn left onto FM 243 to go to Oatmeal (get a load of their standpipe) and stay on that road to Bertram.·At Bertram, head west on 29 for a nice little drive through Burnet. ·Once you go through Burnet you will pass by the Red Top bait shop a little before you get to 2341. We like stopping at the bait shops and chewing the fat, or uh minnows, or uh well anyway. We like going to those places because they typically have useful information and there usually are some interesting characters hanging around. ·Turn right onto RR 2341 and this is where the drive becomes even more scenic.·Follow 2341 towards Lake Buchanan and then turn left onto CR 114 aka Graphite Mine Road.·Follow that road and it becomes 690 and then loops back around to 29 at Buena Vista.·At Buena Vista turn left onto 29 and follow it a short distance until you get to Park Rd 4 W. where you will turn to the right for another scenic stretch of roadway that will take you to Inks Lake State Park and the national fishery. ·Follow the park road and then veer right to 2342 (do not follow Park Rd. 4 to Longhorn Cavern State Park unless of course you want to divert there for a while). ·Take 2342 to 1431 where you will turn left to get back to Marble Falls.·That was purdy, wasn’t it?
