Cypress Bend Park

This sweet little park is on the Guadalupe past some old graveyards in New Braunfels. This would be an excellent place to go for a swim when the water is up and it is a nice take out spot for a short tube or kayak trip of around 2.5 miles from the Gruene Road Crossing. There probably won’t be heavy tubing traffic if you plan to paddle down from Gruene because many of the tubers get out at the Gruene Road Crossing. This place also has made it to a few top ten lists of Central Texas swimming holes mainly because it is fairly large, not terribly crowded, and the water can be great when it is flowing at least 175 cfs. The one knock about this location is that the only shade is right down at the river. ¬†Generally, the upstream area of the park is better than the lower reach for use as a swimming hole. ¬†From IH 35 in New Braunfels, head west on 337 and turn left on E. Common St. and follow it to Peace Ave. where you will turn left. That road will take you to the park. Talk to the good people at Rockin R if you need some information about river conditions or if you want to rent a kayak.
