IN CASE YOU HAVE NOT HEARD, APPROXIMATLEY HALF OF THE PARK SUSTAINED FIRE DAMAGE IN THE LABOR DAY FIRE THAT TOOK PLACE NEAR BASTROP.  CHECK WITH THE PARK OFFICE FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.  OK, OK, so this park isn’t in the Hill Country. We know all about that, but we had to include it because it is adjacent to the Hill Country and the pine trees here are gorgeous. This is still a good place to go spend the weekend and they still have some of the original Civilian Conservation Corps structures from the 1930s. If for no other reason, the park presents a great opportunity to see how the vegetation comes back after a major fire event, and how park personnel are assisting in that effort.  There also is a swimming pool onsite if you want the kids to be able to get in the water where you can keep an eye on them.
