OK, OK, we know this isn’t in the Hill Country but it is a great place to go spend time outdoors at an educational facility located on the Colorado River a few miles east of Austin. They often feature a number of programs and educational presentations regarding the flora and fauna in this 1,100 acre facility. They also offer guided raft and kayak trips, including the glorious full moon night time trips. This is a good place to go for a hike on the 18 miles of trails and then go swimming because a large portion of the park is right on a bend of the river. This also is a great place to take the kids to give them some exposure to water conservation, land stewardship, wildlife habitat conservation and water safety programs.
