This campground is located on County Road 350 across from Garner State Park on the refreshing, spring-fed Frio River. This long-time favorite campground features a superb limestone cliff sitting alongside the river and many places to play in the stream in this picturesque and rugged setting. When the Frio is flowing at a good rate this is an excellent swimming hole and wading area because the water is cold, clear and clean. This site has a stunning view of Old Baldy at Garner State Park across the river. You need to get here early because they only have 18 campsites and you know the best ones will be snagged in a jiffy. One of the benefits of this place is they do take reservations so you can plan ahead to make sure you get a campsite. You really should take advantage of being able to reserve a campsite, because if you don’t others will and you could get left out in the cold. All of the campsites have electricity and water, and dogs are allowed if you keep them on a leash. You can rent tubes here if you want to go on a float trip. This site also could be used as a put in for a 4-mile kayak trip down to CR 348/River Road, which is a very pretty stretch of the river when the water is up. There will be a couple of falls along the way so keep your ears opened. Contact the owners to discuss put in and take out points and to obtain river flow information before you head out. You should contact Josh’s or Happy Hollow for kayak rental information. From Leakey, take US Hwy 83 south and turn left (east) onto County Road 350 and then follow until you see the sign.
