Located just outside of Driftwood this absolutely gorgeous area provides a swimming pool at the top of the hill and a legendary spring-fed swimming hole at the bottom of the hill. The 30-foot waterfall over the collapsed grotto adds to the beauty of this scenic site, which features some cypress trees estimated to be almost 1,000 years old – get out. This area always makes the top ten lists of swimming holes. This pool is another one of those places you have to visit in order to say you have been to the five best swimming holes in the Hill Country. Be careful entering the pool because if you are walking down the rocks there is a lot of very slippery algae just under the water level and you easily could fall and bust your bo-hine. Primarily because of the pool, this also is a great place to go tent camping on top of the hill. They have several campsites that have real good shade, but it still is a good idea to arrive early so you can snag one of the best spots. The kicker about the campsites is that they are not divided up like in a state park so you run the chance of having some neighbors camp pretty close to you. That is why it would be a good idea to put up some extra tents in case you want a buffer zone. From Austin, take Hwy 71 to Driftwood. Turn right onto 191 at the Exxon station. Take a right on CR 404 and the entrance will be on the left. If you know of a better Hill Country campground, swimming hole, waterfall, floating combination area on the east side of 281 let us know and we will buy the beers. No pets.
