Ingram Dam

Ingram, Texas 78025

The dam here creates a large pool that is really good for swimming or floating, and you can join with the locals in some “dam sliding” but watch out because that dam can be slicker than a Dallas lawyer and you could easily smash your noggin if you aren't careful. This is a good place to work on your toe the moo moo maneuver while dam sliding and it has been on a few top ten lists for Central Texas swimming holes. Park across the street for a fee. the dam is located in Ingram near the intersection of State Hwy 39 and 27. This spot also can be used as put in point for kayak trip down to the city park at the intersection of 27 and Harper Road approximately 5 miles downstream. Contact Kerrville Kayak for river flow and put in and take out information or if you need to rent a kayak. You could consider ending the afternoon at the Back Porch Cantina for an adult beverage on their deck overlooking the river when you finish up at the dam.

You can not really say that you have experienced all of the Hill Country until you try dam sliding at least once. If you do not bust your arm or leg it can be a lot of fun. Probably best to get one of the local kids to show you how it is done. You will be pretty close to Schumacher Crossing, which is a really good swimming hole under the right conditions.
