This “ditch” is part of one of the oldest privately owned irrigation systems in Texas, which flows from west to east inside the town of Menard. This system has been around since 1874 when it was chartered as the Vaughn Agricultural and Mechanical Canal Company. We will let you figure out the intricacies of the right to access water from a conveyance system under Texas law in your spare time. Turn onto Canal Street (of course) from Hwy 83 and take a walk along the ditch that conveys life-sustaining water to nearby areas.
