Hamilton Pool Park

Simply stated, this is one of the most spectacular swimming holes in all of the Hill Country and it consistently makes it on to all of the top ten lists of swimming holes. The site features a 50’ waterfall (no diving since the county took over the property, dadblastit) and a gigantic, picturesque collapsed grotto. Cultural artifacts dating over 8,000 years have been found in the area. Not the easiest place to get to (considering the walk from the parking lot), but this is a spot not to be missed. Be sure to call first to check on water quality because those jerks doing the nearby development and construction do not always take proper precautions to keep sediment out of the creek that forms the waterfall. Also a good idea to call in advance to check on parking availability because admittance is limited. Hamilton Pool is approximately 30 miles southwest of Austin. Take Highway 71 west of Austin through the town of Bee Cave and turn left onto FM 3238 (Hamilton Pool Road). There are no life guards on duty so swim at your own risk. Travel 13 miles to the Preserve entrance, on your right. Bert and Ernie’s is nearby if you want some refreshments after your stay at the pool.
