Enjoy the Texas Hill Country

This place is located in Camp Wood at 115 S. Nueces St. (look for the antique shop) in the western portion of the Hill Country. Kayaks and shuttle service are available here and you should be sure to call them to discuss put in and take out points at McDonald’s Crossing, River Road and the Dam by the Highway 55 crossing. These folks are very knowledgeable about the nirvanic Nueces River, which is a real jewel when the water levels are up. This can be a very enjoyable paddle trip and this area might be just right for you because there typically are not as many tubers on the Nueces as there are on the Frio. However, you need to be sure to check with these folks about river flow conditions before driving all the way over here. There often is very little water in the river and even when there is, the gages up here on the river are not terribly useful at identifying good paddling conditions. The shop owners will be able to give you a real good idea as to how favorable the conditions are for taking a trip.
