Enjoy the Texas Hill Country

You access this crossing by taking county road 211 east from Barksdale. The parking is OK and you can use it for a swimming hole or a put in for a nice kayak run of about 5 miles down to Camp Wood around the Rocky River Camp area. This stretch of the river has ledges and some small rapids. Be sure to contact the camp to arrange using their facilities and to check on river conditions before heading out. You could also contact Clear Creek Outfitters if you need to rent some kayaks and they can help you with alternative put in locations as well. The Nueces is a beautiful little river when flowing and it is a fun paddle trip as well, but be sure to contact Clear Creek or the Rocky River Camp before heading out here because the water levels can get real low at times.
